Cannot see mapped network drives for Reckon Accounts Business (formerly QuickBooks) on a Windows 8 P

Legacy KB ID: 4886

Question

I am launching Reckon Accounts Business with Run As Administrator, so why can’t I see my mapped network drives?

Answer

This problem is a result of the unique way Windows 8 Operating System manages user privileges under Run As Administrator.  As a security measure Windows 8 will deny access to network drives.

If you do not Run As Administrator you will not experience the issue.

For further information on this issue please refer to Microsoft article:  https://support.microsoft.com/kb/937624.

Please Note that the multi-user feature on Reckon Accounts Business (formerly QuickBooks) is only supported on Windows 8 Professional and higher versions.

Workaround

Adjust the Windows Registry to force Windows 8 to run Reckon Accounts Business with elevated privileges

Care
:  This step requires you to enter the Windows Registry.  Changes to the Registry effect the behaviour of your computer.  Incorrect changes may prevent your computer from running properly.  If you are not confident in making changes to your Registry please refer to your IT professional.

1.      Click Start, type regedit in the Start Search box, and then press Enter.

2.      Make a backup of your Registry:

1.    On the top menu line, click on File >Export

2.    Select a location to save the file and in the File Name box enter a name;

3.    In the Export Range section, click on All;

    1. Click Save.

3.      Locate and then right-click the following registry subkey:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\System

4.      Point to New, and then click DWORD Value.

5.      Type EnableLinkedConnections, and then press Enter.

6.      Right-click EnableLinkedConnections, and then click Modify.

7.      In the Value data box, type 1, and then click OK.

8.      Exit Registry Editor, and then restart the computer.

If these steps do no resolve the issue, continue with these steps:

1.    Group Policy Adjustments

1.    Control Panel > Administrative Tools > Local Security Policy > Local Policies > Security Options

2.    Network security: LAN Manager authentication level -Set to Send LM & NTLM responses only

3.    Set the Minimum session security for NTLM SSP - Disable Require 128-bit encryption

4.    Reboot all machines in your network after making the adjustment.

2.    Turn off UAC & restart the computer

1.    See https://windows.microsoft.com/en-au/windows7/turn-user-account-control-on-or-off for full details.

How did we do?

When opening my company file, I received a message to use the company from a mapped network drive. H
