An error occurred while processing your online banking data when importing a QIF file into QB

Legacy KB ID: 4711

Question

Why won’t my bank data, in a QIF file created on my bank’s website, not import into Reckon Accounts.  I keep getting an error message.

Answer

The error message is a generic one so users should examine other known issues first:

From CBA:  https://kb.reckon.com.au/issue_view.asp?ID=4625

                     https://kb.reckon.com.au/issue_view.asp?ID=3995

From SGB:  https://kb.reckon.com.au/issue_view.asp?ID=4618

From Westpac:  https://kb.reckon.com.au/issue_view.asp?ID=4626

From ANZ & Suncorp:  https://kb.reckon.com.au/issue_view.asp?ID=50

If you still have a problem, then it may be because there are more transactions than the 50 transactions limit that Reckon Accounts can handle.

Workaround

Split your QIF file into a number of files that contain no more than 50 transactions.

In Windows Explorer, make a number of copies of your QIF file so that each file will contain no more than 50 transactions.

You can view a QIF file through Notepad.  Right-click the file in Windows Explorer and select Open with and select Notepad.

The QIF has this format:

File Type Marker:                                   !Type:Bank

1st Tran Line – Date:                               D21/06/11

2nd Tran Line – Amount:                          T70.00

3rd Tran Line – Details:                           Deposit for Suite

4th Tran Line – End of Record marker:       ^

In the first file, delete all transactions from record 51.  Save the file.

In the second file, ensure you maintain the first line (File Type Marker), delete transactions 101 onwards, then delete transactions 1 – 50.

In the third file, ensure you maintain the first line (File Type Marker), delete transactions 151 onwards, then delete transactions 1 – 100.

Continue this step for all your files.

Import each QIF file into Reckon Accounts.
