QuickBooks has encountered a problem and needs to close when Reconciling a bank account

Legacy KB ID: 411

Question

Why do I receive the error message - QuickBooks has encountered a problem and needs to close when Reconciling a bank account?

Answer

*** INTERNAL ONLY ***

This will occur when reconciling a multicurrency account with the following:

  • An account name with no account number with a maximum of 19 characters in the account name
  • An account name with account number with a maximum of 16 characters combined in the account name and account number. (i.e. Account Name = 10, Account Number = 6)

The issue will only occur in QuickBooks 2008/09. It does not exist in QuickBooks 2009/10.

In order to reconcile an account, reduce the account name.

If the customer is planning to upgrade to the latest release (QBi 2009/10), reduce the account name in Quickbooks 2008/09 and when they upgrade to 2009/10 they can re-enter the account name back to its original state.
