MYOB Converter fails when trying to import data from exported data files.

Legacy KB ID: 4653

Question

Why won’t Quickbooks import the export files created by MYOB to transfer the data to QuickBooks?

Answer

The QuickBooks MYOB Converter was optimised on earlier versions of MYOB – Accounting v15; Accounting Plus v14; Premier Accounting v9.

Later versions can be converted provided that version has not made critical changes to the export file structure.

The import fails because QuickBooks could not identify key information at the start of the file.  For earlier versions of MYOB that means that data was not properly converted.  For versions after the optimised versions, it may be due to a subtle chance in the export file structure.

Workaround

Earlier versions of MYOB

Delete the export files an try again.

Later versions of MYOB

1.    Go to your specified directory for MYOB export files;

2.    Right click the first file (Accounts.txt), select Open With, select Notebook

3.    Examine the first line.  If {} is present, delete it.  You want to see the Column Titles as the first line of the file.  Close and Save the file

4.    Open subsequent files.  Where-ever {} is the first line, delete it so that the Column Titles are the first line.  Close and Save the file.

5.    Continue with the conversion process with the QuickBooks MYOB converter.

6.    It the problem persists, delete the export files and try again.

7.    If the problem persists, then you have an MYOB version that cannot be converted to quickBooks.
