Installing Quickbooks on a Small Business Server 2011

Legacy KB ID: 4492

Question

After installing QuickBooks, why does my SBS2011 server crash and some services not operate?

Answer

SBS 2011 provides some challenging issues as the IIS Service and WSUS Service are not compatible with Microsoft .Net Framework 1.1 that is essential to the operation of QuickBooks.

You will need to make some configuration changes to your SBS2011 to maintain full functionality of QuickBooks and SBS services.

Workaround

The following steps have assisted some users to get full functionality of QuickBooks and SBS 2011.

Care:  This workaround requires you to make some configuration changes on your Small Business Server.  If you are not familiar with configuration and maintenance procedures you should refer to your IT professional to ensure you do not lose functionality on your system.

Follow these steps immediately after installing QuickBooks or QuickBooks Company File Server:

1.    Re-register Microsoft .Net Framework 2.0 and 4.0:

a.    Open the command prompt and change directory to c:\windows\microsoft.net\framework\v2.0.50727

b.    Type: aspnet_regiis /i

c.    Change directory to c:\windows\microsoft.net\framework\v4.0.30319

d.    Type:  aspnet_regiis /i

e.    Type:  iisreset

2.    Allow IIS 1 and 4 isapi filters to run:

a.    Open the Internet Information Services (IIS) Manager

b.    On the SBSAdmin directory view the ISAPI and CGI Restrictions

c.    Ensure the ASP.NET v1 and v4 are Allowed

If you still experience the same problems after these steps, repeat Steps 1 & 2, but in Step 1 use the directory:  c:\windows\microsoft.net\framework64\v2.0.50727.

Additional Step for SBS2011 Essentials

If your websites experience the following error:

HTTP 5000.0 server error

“Calling LoadLibraryEx on ISAPI filter “C:\Windows\Microsoft.NET\Framework\v4.0.30319\\aspnet_filter.dll”

Then do the following:

1.    Start > Administrative Tools > IIS Manager > Admin Directory > ISAPI Filters

2.    Highlight ASP.NET_4.0.30319.0

3.    Update the Executable path to 64-bit (Framework refers to 32bit): %windir%\Microsoft.NET\Framework64\v2.0.50727\aspnet_filter.dll

4.    Click OK to close
