Answer

Why don’t I have a Not Eligible to Receive Leave Loading tax scale in Payroll Premier 2012/13?

Answer

As part of the changes to the PAYG income tax laws, the special tax treatment for Leave Loading has been removed.

Up to 2011/12 basic tax scales charged an extra $2.00 per week PAYG tax to give employees the first $320.00 of Leave Loading payment free of tax.  This special arrangement has been removed in 2012/13 and the tax scales in Payroll Premier 2012/13 reflect this change.  Employees will no longer pay an extra $2.00 PAYG tax per week and will have all their Leave Loading payments taxed at their marginal rates of tax.

As a result, the tax scale Not Eligible to Receive Leave Loading is no longer required and has been removed from the Tax Scale choice.

Employees who were assigned the Not Eligible to Receive Leave Loading tax scale were switched to the basic Tax Free Threshold Claimed tax scale durint the upgrade to 2012/13 - you would have encountered a screen:

Removal of Tax Scales.

One of the tax “scales” used – Tax Scale 7: Claiming tax free threshold with no leave loading – has been abolished.  Scale 7 will be rolled into Scale 2 (tax free threshold claimed and leave loading applicable).  The table on the right will show the employees affected.
