Changes to the registry made by Payroll Premier 2012/13 Multi-User

Legacy KB ID: 4559

Question

I’m installing Payroll Premier 2012/13 Multi-user version and it asks me to allow it to make changes to my Registry, warning that these changes may result in other products not functioning properly.

What changes are being made?  Is it safe?

What effect will there be on the operation of Payroll Premier if I say NO?

Answer

This change affects Multi-user versions only.

The changes are required to allow Payroll Premier to interact with intranet systems in network environments to provide additional information like the Help Index.

Windows operating systems have built in some protection that prevents Payroll Premier using these systems in a network environment.  These changes will turn this protection off.

The changes made are to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\WinHelp, and the strings:  ‘AllowProgrammaticMacros’ and ‘AllowIntranetAccess’ are added.

Please note that the addition of ‘AllowProgrammaticMacros’ to this registry key will turn off protection around macros for Excel.

If you choose NO then you will experience difficulties when accessing the Help Index and you will need to follow the workaround in KB 4189 to ensure all PCs have access to the correct tax tables:  https://kb.reckon.com.au/issue_view.asp?ID=4189
