Question

How do I resolve the message I received when running the QuickBooks Verify utility: "Your data contains duplicate list elements. Please view Qbwin.log located in your program directory for a list of the duplicate elements"?


This message occurs when you have two or more identical names, items, or accounts in your lists.

Answer

******   QuickBooks and Reckon Accounts 2008/09 and later should see KB5575   ******

If the list elements are tax payable accounts then edit each tax payable account, if the type of account can be changed then change the name of the account to "Tax Payable Temp", adding a number for more than one account. If the account type can't be change and is geryed out then leave it as tax payable, THIS IS YOUR REAL TAX PAYABLE ACCOUNT.
2.Move the sub accounts of any imposter accounts to the real tax payable account. This is done by moving the mouse over the bullet next to the name of the sub account untill it changes to a 4 way arrow, holding the left mouse button down and then draging the account into position.
3. When the imposter accounts are free of their sub accounts go to the tax code list, edit each tax code and make sure that none of the linked accounts are Tax Payable Imposter, if the are change them to the correct account and save the tax code
4. When the tax codes are correct go to the chart of accounts and check the registry of the imposter accounts for transactions, any transactions left will need to be changed by placing a dot in the memo feild and then resaved.
5. When the register is empty then you can delete the imposter account's
