Pin Vault and online banking features in Quicken 2005

Legacy KB ID: 3145

Question

What is the 'Pin Vault' and online banking features in Quicken 2005?

Answer

The Quicken 2005 online banking feature incorporates a 'PIN vault’. However further development and support from various banks and financial institutions is underway. Until such time, we recommend that users download their statements in QIF format from their current financial institution. Most major banks support the QIF file format.

To Import you banking data from a QIF file do the following:

1. Download the QIF file and save it to a location on your computer that you can easily locate again

2. Back up your Quicken data file

3. If the account you want to import data into doesn't yet exist, create a new one

4. Choose File menu > Import > QIF file

5. In the Quicken Account to Import into dropdown list, select the account you want to import the QIF file into

6. In the QIF File to Import field, Click Browse to search for the file you want to import (the file you downloaded from your financial institution)

7. Under 'Include in Import' selection menu, select the items you want to include in the import process such as 'transactions' to import all the transactions contained in your QIF file

**Note**
You can import from lists without importing the transactions at the same time, a useful feature when you're setting up a new file.

8. Click OK and you are done

Go to your account register to check that the import was successful
