QuickBooks Hosted freezes when importing an IIF file

Legacy KB ID: 4182

Question

Why does QuickBooks Hosted freeze when I try to import an IIF file?

Answer

You are likely to encounter this problem if you are importing the IIF file directly from a location on your Local PC when accessing QuickBooks Hosted through a Standard account that used the Windows Server 2008 R@ server.

In many instances QuickBooks Hosted has not frozen but is taking a very long time to access and process the information across the internet.

Copying the file from the local PC to your Q:\ using the Windows Copy and Paste function will work at normal speed.  Accessing the IIF from your Q:\ will import at normal speed.

Workaround

Copy the IIF file to your Q:\ drive on QuickBooks Hosted and import the IIF from that location.

1.    Save your IIF file to a drive on your Local PC;

2.    In QuickBooks Hosted, File > Open a Company File > click on the dropdown menu for Files of type > select All Files;

3.    In the Look in: box, select the drive your IIF file resides on your local PC;

4.    Browse to the location of your IIF file and highlight it;

5.    Click on CTRL + C to copy;

6.    In the Look in: box, select your QuickBooks Hosted Q:\ drive;

7.    Right click the background and click on CTRL + V to paste;

8.    Open your company file and import the IIF from your Q:\ drive.
