Mouse and TAB movements on QuickBooks Hosted are slow

Legacy KB ID: 4364

Question

Why are mouse and tab movements on QuickBooks Hosted (standard) very slow?  I have to wait a couple of seconds between clicks.

Answer

There are two reasons why you may experience slow mouse and TAB movements while working on QuickBooks Hosted Standard Account:

·         Real-Time scanners (included in some anti-virus software)

It may be configured to scan, in addition to other times, when a file is accessed/opened or a process executed.  Mouse and TAB actions constitute actions that will trigger scanning.

·         Sub-optimum display screen setting.

If your screen setting is materially different to Terminal Server 2008’s optimal screen setting, your screen may take longer to process the signal coming from QuickBooks Hosted.

Workarounds

Real-Time Scanners

Consult your real-time scanner or anti-virus applications’ user guide for configuration details.  Uncheck any reference to scanning whenever a file is accessed or opened, or a process is executed.

Please Note:  if you are not confident in changing settings, or unsure of the effect of the change on your system’s security, please contact your IT professional or speak with your software’s technical support.

Sub-Optimum Display Screen settings.

1.    Modify Display screen settings for Remote Desktop Connection (RDP):

a.    Start > type mstsc > Enter

b.    On the Remote Desktop connection screen, click on Options > Display tab;

c.    Under Display Configuration, slide the bar a notch to the left;

                                          i.    If it is at the left side, move to the right;

                                         ii.    Do not set to the right edge (Full Screen);

d.    Close the Remote Desktop connection.

2.    If viewing QuickBooks Hosted on a Full Screen Display:

a.    Click the Restore Down button in the top right corner

b.    Drag out the window to nearly full screen.
