Question

Why do I now get the error message: “This version of Reckon Accounts requires Microsoft Internet Explorer 6.0 (or later)" when opening previous versions of Reckon Accounts Business 2021 and below (formerly QuickBooks).


Answer

Turn on Internet Explorer or re-install it.

The Issue

You will experience this issue when a previous version of Reckon Accounts is unable to verify the Internet Explorer (IE) entry in the Windows registry. If the IE tag is missing when Reckon Accounts is launched, it will abort and the QBwin.log file will have an entry: "MauiMain:IsIEPresentfailed. Exiting..."

This is likely to happen when:

  • Internet Explorer in the Windows Feature is disabled
  • Internet Explorer was not properly installed

Moreover, certain versions of Windows 10 officially replaced Internet Explorer with Microsoft Edge with IE mode as of 15th June 2022 as the new default browser. After upgrading your computer to Windows 10 or Windows 11, Reckon Accounts detects that there is no Internet Explorer installed and generates the message.



Workaround

Windows 11

Enable the Internet Explorer mode feature

  1. Click on the Windows Start and go to Settings
  2. Select Apps and choose Optional features
  3. Click on View features on Add an optional feature

  1. Type 'Internet Explorer' on the Search field
  2. Place a tick on the checkbox then click on Next
  3. Then click on Install

  1. Restart your computer
  2. Reckon Accounts will now open

Windows 10

Enabling Internet Explorer 11 feature via Control Panel

  1. Open the Control Panel
  2. Navigate to Programs > Programs and Features
  3. Select Turn Windows features on or off on the left pane
  4. Place a tick on Internet Explorer 11 and click OK

  1. After the process, click on Restart now
  2. Reckon Accounts will now open
If the Internet Explorer option is not present in the Windows feature or it was not installed properly, continue below.

Reinstalling the Internet Explorer 11 feature

  1. Click on the Windows Start and go to Settings
  2. Select Apps
  3. Under Apps & features, select Optional features

  1. Click on Add a feature
  2. Type 'Internet Explorer' on the Search field
  3. Place a tick on the checkbox then click on Install

  1. Restart your computer
  2. Reckon Accounts will now open
