Installation Error 'QuickBooks has detected that you have a trial version of QuickBooks on your machine'

Question

Why when I'm installing a QuickBooks upgrade on an existing QuickBooks trial. I receive the message; 'QuickBooks has detected that you have a trial version of QuickBooks on your machine, you cannot upgrade to QuickBooks 2004 from a trial version of QuickBooks'

Answer

To Resolve this issue you should delete any record of the trial from your machine, this involves uninstalling the trial version and deleting the installation record from the Windows Registry.

1. To uninstall the QuickBooks 2004 trial; go to 'Control Panel' > 'Add or Remove Programs'. Highlight the QuickBooks 2004 Trial entry and click Uninstall or Remove button.

2. To delete the Windows Registry value follow the steps below:

a) Click the Windows Start button and choose Run

b) In the open field type regedit and click OK

c) Navigate to the folder HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Intuit\QuickBooksRegistration\13.0

d) Highlight the folder 13.0 and click on the delete key, confirm delete by choosing Yes

e) Close down the Windows Registry from the File menu choose Exit

You should now be able to install the QuickBooks Upgrade.
