Why can't I drill into some journals on my transaction detail by account report?

Question

I have opened my transaction detail by account report and highlighted one of the transactions type General Journal. The magnifying glass shows, but when I double clicked on it to drill into it nothing happens. Why?

Answer

This is probably due to the General Journal transaction imported from Quicken Payroll. The first line of these journals is blank except for an entry in the memo field "Quicken Payroll Transfer - DO NOT DELETE", and the employee's name in the Name field.

To view the actual transaction you should use the "Find" feature built in QuickBooks


  1. Click on the Edit menu and choose Find / Advanced Find.

  2. Click on the name under the Filter selection and assign the required name.

  3. View the results and locate the required transaction.

At this stage you may want to edit the transaction so that you'll be able to zoom into it from the various detailed reports.



  1. Locate the transaction using the above method and double click on the transaction from the Find window.

  2. Delete the first line that appears blank on this journal

Note: You should reassign the employee name to the journal in the name column.
