Question

When I open a company file why do I get the error:

QuickBooks was unable to reset the database service. Please restart your computer and try opening the company file again. If the problem persists, please contact Intuit Technical Support and provide the following error codes: (-6106,1069)?

Answer

This problem will occur when:

·         QuickBooks is installed on a non-US version of Microsoft Windows (the release version in Australia);

·         The Windows Regional and Language Options are set to something other than English (United States) or English (Australia);

·         QBDataServiceUserXX is damaged.

Solution

Start with Solution 1 and if the problem is not resolved continue with subsequent solutions until resolution.

Solution 1 – confirm the version of Windows installed

  1. Search your hard drive for the winver.exe file.
The winver.exe file is usually located in the C:\Windows\System32 folder.
  2. Right-click winver.exe and select Properties and then:
    1. Windows 7 & Vista: click on the Details tab.  In the Property List for Language note the entry in the Value column.
    2. Windows XP: click on the Version tab and then select Language in the Item name column.
  3. Confirm that the version of Windows is English (United States).  If it is not then QuickBooks will not operate properly on this machine.

If the problem persists, continue with the next step.

Solution 2:  Set the Windows Regional and Language settings to English (Australia)

  1. Windows 7 or Vista
    1. Click the Windows Start button > Control Panel > Region and Language
    2. In the Formats tab and int he Format box, change the entry to English (Australia) or English (United States)
    3. Click OK.
    4. Open QuickBooks.
  2. Windows XP
    1. Click the Windows Start button > Control Panel > Regional and Language Options.
    2. In the Regional Options tab and in the Standards and formats section, select English (Australia) or English (United States).
    3. Click the Advanced tab and in the Language for non-Unicode programs section select English (Australia) or English (United States).
    4. Click OK.
    5. Open QuickBooks.

If the problem persists, continue with the next step.

Solution 3:  QBDataServiceUserXX is damaged

XX refers to the version number of QuickBooks:

  • 19 = 2010/11

  1. Click the Windows Start button > Control Panel > Administrative Tools > Services

2.    Right- click the service that matches your version of QuickBooks and select Properties:

a.    2010/11: QuickBooksDB19

    1. 2009/10: QuickBooksDB18
  1. Click the Log On tab and tick the box Local System account and click OK.
  2. Close the Services window.
  3. Open QuickBooks.

If your QuickBooks opens without any errors
