An error occurred while processing your online banking data when importing a QIF file

Question

Why won’t QuickBooks import by bank statement?  I get the error:

An error occurred while processing your online banking data.

Your data was not imported in to QuickBooks.

Please try importing your data gain.  If this error persists, contact YouickBooks technical support.

 

Answer

You may experience this problem when you import a QIF file from Westpac. 

Unlike other banks, Westpac allows different date formats in the QIF file.  Its default setting is US format: mm/dd/yy.  QuickBooks requires the date to be AUS format:  dd/mm/yyyy.

 

Workaround

Go to the Westpac website and create your download file again, this time changing the Date format from mm/dd/yy to dd/mm/yyyy.
