Error upgrading from Quicken Personal & Personal Plus version 8 to 2008 - " features not currently activated "

Question

Why do I get the error: The file contains one or more accounts that require access to features not currently activated in this copy of Quicken?

Answer

This message will occur when you are upgrading from Quicken Personal & Personal Plus Version 8.x and you do have tax tracking enabled on any of your accounts.

Important Note - Make sure you always backup you data before upgrading or troubleshooting.

If you need the tax tracking feature you need to purchase Quicken Home and Business in order to keep using this feature. The version / flavour you are upgrading to does not contain the Tax Tracking facility.

Or

If you have not been tracking tax transactions and you still get this message you will need to Delete the Tax Control account from your account list if the account is clear of any information. If you have also been using the invoice / accounts Receivable accounts, these accounts must also be deleted before upgrading (be sure to check these accounts have not been hidden in the past by a previous user)

Or

If you no longer require Tax tracking and wish to continue using Quicken Personal / Personal Plus you need to start a new quicken data file.
