POS database crashes when a terminal is renamed

Legacy KB ID: 4342

Question

Why does my POS database (qbpos.pdb) crash when I rename a terminal?

Answer

******   THIS ISSUE HAS BEEN ADDRESSED IN 2011/12 EDITION   ******

You are likely to experience this issue if the terminal name contained the characters: > <, > < and > | <.

You may get some of the following error messages:

·         POSOptions – Run-time error ‘3077’

·         POSOptions – run-time error ‘440’

·         Error during operation – An error occurred while reading or writing data to the Retail Point of Sale database file.  Retail Point of Sale cannot continue without the ability to read and werite data to the database file.

The database file is now unusable.

Workaround

1.    Create a new database file.

a.    Close POS Terminals and Administrator

b.    In Windows Explorer, rename the existing PDB file by adding .old

c.    Launch POS Admin and create a new database file.

2.    Restore a backup – however, you will not be able to change the name of the terminal.

How did we do?
