POS Enterprise installation fails on Windows Server 2008

Legacy KB ID: 3805

Question

Why won’t POS Enterprise install on Windows Server 2008?

Answer

Microsoft Powershell is required for the SQL Server.  The POS Enterprise installation disk contains different versions of Microsoft PowerShell for different operating systems.  As PowerShell comes part of Windows Server 2008 it cannot be loaded from the installation disk.

Microsoft PowerShell is not automatically installed on Windows Server 2008.  To install PowerShell:

1) Click Start > Server Manager
2) On the Server Manager windows click Features in the Left Pane
3) On the right, click Add Features
4) Scroll through the list and tick Windows Powershell
5) Click Next then Install

You should now be able to install POS Enterprise.
