Scheduled Backup does not complete in Accounts Business

Legacy KB ID: 5127

Question

Why doesn’t the Scheduled Backup complete in Reckon Accounts Business 2023?

It starts, appears to be working for a few seconds but fails to complete.  There are no error messages and there is no backup file created.

Manual backup works fine.

Answer

Create a Reckon Accounts 2023 folder inside C:\ProgramData\Intuit\ and copy the qbbackup.sys from C:\ProgramData\Intuit\Reckon Accounts 2023 to here.

Create a folder on the C drive like RAB backup.

The Issue

This issue appears to be a result of the rebranding from Quickbooks to Reckon Accounts Business our products have been undergoing over the past 2 releases.  Reckon apologises for the inconvenience this issue is causing.

The scheduling function will be restored with this tweak:

Detailed Instructions

Fix 1

1.    Set up the Automatic Backup within every Accounts Business company file that will utilize scheduled backup and close out of Accounts Business

2.    Go to C:\ProgramData\Intuit\

3.    Create a new sub-folder –

a.    Either:  C:\ProgramData\Intuit\QuickBooks 2015

b.    Or:  C:\ProgramData\Intuit\QuickBooks 2014

(Note:  there must be a space between Quickbooks and 2015)

4.    Navigate to C:\ProgramData\Intuit\Reckon Accounts 2015 (or 2014) and copy qbbackup.sys to the folder you just created

5.    Reopen Accounts Business and create a backup to a folder on the C drive (eg: C:\RABbackup).  When you exit the programme, the Backup should go through.

Fix 2

If the above fix does not resolve the issue, then the backup system file may be corrupted. Please follow the instructions below to generate a new one.

1. Close Reckon Accounts 20xx

2. Go to C:\ProgramData\Intuit\Reckon Accounts 20xx

3. Locate the file called 'qbbackup.sys' > right-click > rename

4. Call the file 'qbbackupold.sys'

5. Open Reckon Accounts 20xx and attempt to perform a scheduled backup again

If you make changes to the automatic backup settings (like how often a backup is run) you must copy the qbbackup.sys file again to the new location.

If you create a new company file later after making this fix, add automatic backup settings and copy the qbbackup.sys file again to the new location.
