QuickBooks keeps saying it isn't registered even though I have registered it.

Question

I deal with data files from different versions of QuickBooks and therefore need to have each version installed. I have Version 8 and Version 8.1 installed in different folders on the same computer. After using one version the other version says it isn't registered.

Answer

QuickBooks only puts one entry in the Windows registry for Version 7, one for Version 8 etc. This means you can have a Version 7 and a Version 8 installed on the same Hard-Drive but if you have two upgrades of the same Version installed e.g Verion 8 and Version 8.1 they will unregister each time you use one and then the other. There is no way around this. You can open a Verion 8.1 file in Version 8 but for future upgrades you will have to check that they are backwards compatible before upgrading a file.
