Question

Why are the Savings Goals appearing blank when upgrading to Quicken 2009 or 2010?

Answer

To be able to update the Savings Goals, you will need to revert back to your previous version of Quicken and delete/remove all savings goals. Once all saving goals have been deleted/removed, reinstall your current version and re-input the saving goals.

 1. Create a backup of your current data file in your current Quicken version for safe keeping to a new location
 2. From the Start button, select Control Panel:

Microsoft Windows Vista:

 a. Select Programs and then click Programs and Features
 b. Select your current Quicken version from the list of programs and click Uninstall
 c. Follow the instructions to uninstall Quicken

Microsoft Windows XP:

 a. Double-click Add/Remove Programs
 b. Select your current Quicken version from the list of programs, and then click Remove
 c.  Follow the instructions to uninstall Quicken

Now continue:

 3. Install your previous Quicken version prior to the upgrade.
 4. Restart your computer.
 5. Open Quicken and Activate
 6. Restore your Quicken Backup set from before the upgrade.
 7. Open your Quicken Data file
 8. Delete the Savings Goal
 9. Select No to "Do you want to keep the asset account for your records."
10. Repeat the same process until the Savings Goals list is blank
11. Now do a Validation of the file, go to the File menu > File Operations > Validate. Select your Quicken Data file that is open and select OK.
12. Once that is complete, create a new backup set of the file to a new folder location and note down the location for your reference.
13. Now go through the same process as Step 2 to remove your older version of Quicken.
14. Now install your current Quicken version.
15. Restart your PC.
16. Open Quicken and activate.
17. Restore your Quicken backup set that you created in Step 11 into your current version of Quicken.
18. Open the Quicken Data file.
19. Now create your Savings Goals again.
