Legacy KB ID: 506

Question

Opening lists and tabbing between fields on an invoice causes QuickBooks to run slowly when two or more users are working in your company file

Answer

Note! This Article only applies to QuickBooks 2002

If you use QuickBooks Pro 2002, some situations such as opening lists and tabbing between fields on an invoice cause QuickBooks to run slowly when two or more users are working in your company file. This may be due to data inconsistency, to resolve this issue you need to export your Tax Code List and then Reimport the Tax Code List:

Note: You need to be in the Single-user Mode to Import or Export lists. The QuickBooks Administrator is the only user who can export in QuickBooks

To Export your Tax Code List

1. From the File menu, choose Open Company. Select the company containing the Tax Code list you want to export and click OK.
2. From the File menu, click Utilities, and choose Export.
3. In the window that appears, select the Tax Code Lists you want to include in the export file.
4. Click OK.
5. Enter a filename for the export file. The filename should have no more than eight characters and have the .IIF extension

Note: Remember the directory and filename, because you will need them when importing.

To Import Your Tax Code List

1. From the File menu, choose Open Company. Select the file name of the company into which you want to import, and click OK.
2. From the File menu, click Utilities, and choose Import.
3. Select the file you just exported, and click Open.
4. Open your lists to check that they imported correctly.

You can now switch back to Multi-User mode to see the improvement in performance
