QuickBooks Search with Google Desktop does not return any results

Legacy KB ID: 4264

Question

Why don’t I get any results when I use the QuickBooks Search function after installing the Google Desktop Search?  The word I am searching for exists in the quickBooks database and is entered correctly.

Answer

When you first install Google Desktop Search, it must index the information in your file.  Depending on the size of your file this process may take a long time.  If you search while your file is still being indexed then QuickBooks Search will behave haphazardly – sometimes it may return a result and at others return nothing.

You should wait till Google Desktop Search has completed its indexing before evaluating the effectiveness of the search.

To check the status of the indexing, in the System Tray move your mouse over the Google Desktop icon and the pop-up box will list the percentage of indexing completed.

If Indexing is complete and QuickBooks Search does not return a result, then do the following:

1.    In the QuickBooks Search window, click on Search Preferences;

2.    On the Preferences window, click on the Other tab;

If you have upgraded your Google Desktop since installing QuickBooks, you may have a tab called Desktop Search; click this tab;

3.    Tick the box enable Advanced Features;

Or if you have upgraded, click Enables additional features by using google Desktop’s index;

4.    Click on Save Preferences and close QuickBooks Search

You should now be able to successfully search with QuickBooks Search using Google Desktop.
