Legacy KB ID: 2728

Question

Why can't I access the help menu within Quicken 2008 after installing the latest Windows Update?

Answer

We have currently found a problem with one of the components (Security Update for Microsoft Windows [KB942615]) in regards to the Microsoft Automatic Updates for Internet Explorer 7.

This issue is currently being investigated.

A temporary suggestion to gain access to the QuickBooks Help Menu is to uninstall one of the components from the Microsoft Windows update.

To do this, follow the instructions below:

Set how Windows can install updates

Windows XP Users:

- From the Windows Start Menu, select Control Panel.
- Click Security Center.
- Click Automatic Updates.
- Select Download updates for me, but let me choose when to install them.
- Click Apply and Ok.

Windows Vista Users:

- From the Windows Start Menu, select Control Panel.
- From the Classic View, double click Windows Update.
- From the left pane, select Change Settings.
- Select Download updates but let me choose whether to install them.
- Untick Include recommended updates when downloading, installing, or notifying me about updates.
- Click Ok.

- Double click Add or Remove Programs.
- Tick the box - Show Updates.

- Software Update Removal Wizard window will appear. Click Next.
- A message will appear - If KB942615 is removed, these programs might not run properly. Do you want to continue? Select Yes.
