Question

Why doesn't QuickBooks allow me to restore the second disk of my backup set? A message continually appears asking for the second disk, and when I insert it, I am asked to place the first disk in the drive again, and the backup is not restored.

Answer

It is possbile that when the backup was made, an error occured during the backup process which has caused the disk to seem corrupted when being accessed from QuickBooks 2002. This problem can be overcome by using an earlier verion of QuickBooks to restore the backup. For this example, we will use QuickBooks version 8.0; 1. Open QuickBooks verison 8 and insert the first disk of the backup set into the floppy drive. 2. Then go to the File menu and select Restore > From Disk 3. In the "Restore From" window, select the A: (3 1/2 Foppy Drive) as the drive to restore from. 4. When the name of the backup file appears, highlight it and click OK 5. Then, in the "Restore To" window, select the fodler you wish to save the data file in and click OK. 6. As each disk is restored, a message will appear saying "Unable to find the backup file on that disk. Please select it from the following dialog". 7. Click OK to this and select the file on the floppy drive to continue. 8. Once all disks hae been restored, a message will appear saying " This data is from a newer version of QuickBooks. It cannot be used". A message will then follow saying "Your Data has NOT been restored". A copy of this file will then be located in the destination folder which you specified earlier 9. Close down QuickBooks V8 and open QuickBooks 2002. 10. From the File menu, select Open Company... and browse to the newly restored file . 11. Highlight this and click on the Open button. The file should now open.
