The InstallShield Engine could not be installed when installing a Quickbooks bridging version

Legacy KB ID: 4466

Question

I am upgrading my company file from an old version of QuickBooks to the current version.  When installing a bridging version like QuickBooks 2002, why do I get the error “The Install Shield Engine could not be installed”?

Answer

A required InstallShield file failed to install properly.  This is commonly a problem with the C:\Temp folder on the PC.

Workaround

1.    Open Windows Explorer > (My) Computer > C:\ > Temp

2.    Highlight all the files in this folder and click the Delete button on your keyboard;

(Or, right click the highlighted files and select Delete)

3.    Insert the Upgrade Resources CD into your CD/DVD drive.  If a splash screen opens, close it.

4.    In Windows Explorer > (My) Computer > right click your CD/DVD drive and select Open;

5.    Click on the relevant ConvertXX folder for your bridging edition:

a.    Convert7 – QuickBooks v7.4

b.    Convert9 – QuickBooks v8.1

c.    Convert12 – QuickBooks 2002

d.    Convert14 – QuickBooks 2004

e.    Convert16 – Quickbooks 2007/08

6.    Click on Qbooks and then Setup.exe to launch your QuickBooks bridging programme.
