Question

How do I uninstall and reinstall Microsoft Visual C++?

Answer

The following steps require a degree of confidence in general computer skills.  These steps do not refer to any Reckon product and if you are not confident in following these directions you should consult your IT professional.

Before commencing Reckon recommends you make a System Restore.

 

Detailed Instructions

 

Uninstall Microsoft Visual C++:

1.    Windows 7 or Vista

1.    Close all open programs.

2.    Click the Windows Start button.

3.    In the Start Search field, enter control and click Enter. The Control Panel window opens.

4.    Under Programs, click Uninstall a Program. (If you are using Classic View in Vista, double-click Programs and Features.)

5.    Select Microsoft Visual C++ 2005 Redistributable

6.    Click Uninstall and follow the onscreen instructions to uninstall the program.

7.    Restart your computer when prompted.

 

2.    Windows XP

1.    Close all open programs.

2.    Click the Windows Start button and choose Run.

3.    In the Open field, enter control and click OK. The Control Panel window opens.

4.    Double-click Add or Remove Programs.

5.    Select Microsoft Visual C++ 2005 Redistributable

6.    Click Uninstall and follow the on-screen instructions to uninstall the program.

7.    Restart your computer when prompted.

 

Reinstall Microsoft Visual C++:

1.    Insert the QuickBooks CD in your CD drive. If the QuickBooks installation window opens, close it.

2.    Right-click the Windows Start button and choose Explore (Open Windows Explorer in Windows 7.)

3.    Browse to D:\ThirdParty\CRT9 or D:\ThirdParty\CRT8, where D: is your CD drive letter.

4.    Double-click vc_red.msi or vcredist_x86.exe and follow the prompts to install the software.
