Error 1603 installing .Net Framework 1.1 SP1 during QuickBooks 2010/11 installation

Question

Why does my installation fail with the error:

Error 1603:  There was a problem installing “Microsoft Windows 2003 .Net Framework 1.1 ServicePack 1.

Answer

*****   THIS ISSUE HAS BEEN ADDRESSED IN 2011/12 EDITION   *****

This problem can be encountered on a 64-bit Windows XP operating system.

 

Solution
Manually install .Net Framework 1.1 sp1.

1.    Insert your QuickBooks 2010/11 installation disk into your CD/DVD drive and exit from the menu page;

2.    In Windows Explorer, right-click on your CD/DVD drive and select Open;

3.    Browse to ThirdParty\dotNET11;

4.    Double click on dotnetfx.exe to install .Net Framework 1.1;

5.    When installed, double click on dotnetsp1.exe to install .Net Framework 1.1 ServicePack 1  (CARE: do not select dotnet2003sp1.exe)

6.    When complete, install QuickBooks 2010/11 again. 

 

 

Additional Note for Windows 7 users:

You must log onto your Windows 7 computer as the built-in Administrator:

1.     Click on Start, then  All Programs, then Accessories, then right click Command Prompt and left click Run as administrator;

2.     Type in the following command to turn on or off the account:

a.    Turning on: net user administrator /active:yes

Install .Net Framework 1.1.  When complete, turn off the built-in Adminstrator:

b.    Turning off:  net user administrator /active:no
