Error Message: "The drive you specified is not valid. Please specify a different drive in the location field."

Question

Why do I receive the following message when I attempt to make a backup of my company file?

"The drive you specified is not valid. Please specify a different drive in the location field."

Answer

If you are using Pop-Up Stopper® from Panicware®, Inc., it may be conflicting with the QuickBooks backup process.

To resolve this issue:

  1. Use the Task Manager utility to temporarily disable the Pop-Up Stopper program (this should show as dpp2.exe on the task list).
  2. Complete the QuickBooks backup.
  3. Enable the Pop-Up Stopper again.
