Application Error in ntdll.dll when attempting to produce BAS

Legacy KB ID: 522

Question

When attempting to produce a Simplified BAS in QuickBooks 2002 an application error occurs.
Generally the error appears as follows (It may be Slightly different depending on the Operating System).

QuickBooks has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the Inconvenience.
When you click OK The following message appears.
AppName: qbw32.exe AppVer: 9.0.4.1 ModName: ntdll.dll

Answer

Currently QuickBooks is experiencing difficulties while processing the BAS when you have tax code names that are longer than 14 digits.

For example:

If you have a Tax code called (GST on Purchases); (16 Digits including spaces) QuickBooks may be unable to process this.

In situations where you have long names on your tax codes, you will need to rename them slightly.

In our example:

GST on Purchases

RENAME to

GST-Purchases Or GSTpurchase

Essentially, you will need to shorten the tax code name so that it is less than 14 digits long (Including Spaces).
