Incompatible version of the RPC stub

Question

In the beginning of the installtion of QuickBooks "Setup is preparing the install shield wizard" box appears, then when the progress bar finishes an error message reads 'Unhandled Exception Error number:0x80070725.  Incompatible version of the RPC stub'.

Answer

This problem seems to happen under Win9x OS.


To overcome this problem download a file named mcrepair.exe from https://www.microsoft.com/windows/ie/downloads/critical/ie6sp1/default.mspx and install it prior to the installation of QuickBooks. For the patch to work all newer files need to be overwritten.

To resolve this issue, use the appropriate method.

If Office 2000 or or an Office 2000 component is installed on your computer, obtain and install the Office 2000 Service Release 1 (SR-1).


If Office 2000 or or an Office 2000 component is not installed on your computer, obtain and install the Mcrepair.exe tool.


Restart your computer after you install Mcrepair.exe.


Then run Mcrepair.exe:


When you run this executable, when it prompts you whether you wish to overwrite Newer files, make sure to click YES for each file
