The Tax Detail Cash Tax report displays incorrectly after upgrading to QuickBooks QBi

Legacy KB ID: 3744

Question

I have upgraded my old QuickBooks version to the QBi series.  Now when I run a Tax Detail (Cash Tax) Report no transactions are displayed.  Why?

Answer

Files that were created in QuickBooks version 7.4 or earlier contain a Sales Tax Payable account as well as a Tax Payable account. The Tax Detail (Cash Tax) report is looking at the Sales Tax Payable account instead of the Tax Payable account.

Solution

To immediately display your report correctly:

1.  Open the Tax Detail (Cash Tax) Report
2.  Click the Modify Report button
3.  Select the Filters Tab
4.  Select the Account Filter and change the selected account from Sales Tax Payable to Tax Payable
5.  Click the OK button to save these changes
6.  Your report should now show the correct figures

7.  Memorize the report to save the changes for future use

To resolve this issue permanently you will need to make an adjustment in your original version and upgrade the file again:

1.    In your version 7.4 or earlier version, open your company file;

2.    Click on Lists and then Chart of Accounts;

3.    Right click on Sales Tax Payable and select Edit;

4.    Tick the Subaccount box and select Tax Payable for the account;

5.    Click on OK to complete.

6.    Rebuild your company file (File > Utilities > Rebuild);

7.    Create a fresh backup;

8.    Upgrade your file through the bridging versions of 2002 and 07/08.
