Help entries for Consignment Sales are missing

Legacy KB ID: 5257

Question

When I click on Consignment Sales in the Help Index I get information on an unrelated topic – Using the Reckon Accounts Home page.  How can I get the information for Consignment Sales?

Answer

Download the additional Help Menu files.

The Issue

Consignment Sales help files in Premier and Enterprise editions in flavours other than Retail and Accountants Edition are not loading on installation.

Reckon apologises for the inconvenience.

Workaround

Download the additional help files from the Reckon Library:  HelpMenuUpdate.

  1. Close Reckon Accounts Business
  2. Download the file to a convenient location like the Desktop
  3. Double click the file to start the unzip process
  4. Extract the files to C:\ Program Files (x86)\Intuit\
    1. Select the appropriate folder
      1. Reckon Accounts Enterprise 2023
      2. Reckon Accounts 2023
  5. Click OK

Open Accounts Business > Help Index > Consignment.  Select an option and the correct help information will be available.

You should keep this Help Menu Update file in an accessible place as you may need to extract it again if you reinstall Accounts Business.

Additional Information

Microsoft Security Updates 896358 & 840315 block display of CHM file content when opened from a network drive (or a UNC path). This is Microsoft strategy to block viruses/malware from infecting your computer.   Files that draw data over the "InfoTech" protocol, which chm files do, are blocked.

Solutions

You can get around this restriction with one of the following:

  1. Windows Server or Windows OS:
    1. Right click the retail_n.chm file, and you will get the "retail_n.chm.chm Properties" dialog box,
    2. at the bottom, a button called "Unblock" appears. Click Unblock and press OK, and try to open the retail_n.chm file again – it should work correctly.
  2. Moving your chm file OFF the network drive. To check whether you are using a network drive:
    1. Right click the retail_n.chm file > Properties
    2. In the "location" field, does the entry start with two backslashes like: \\epicserver\abcde\?  If yes, then you are using a networked drive.
    3. Copy the retail_n.chm file, and paste it into a local drive, like the C:\ drive.
    4. Open the retail_n.chm file from the new location and you will be able to read its contents normally.
  3. Lower versions of windows – Vista, XP.
    1. Download the HHreg utility from HHReg (HTML Help Registration Utility)
    2. Open the utility and load the retail_n.chm file and press OK
    3. Wait as new registry entries are created
    4. When prompted choose do not block this file.
