QBGDS plug-in has stopped working error when opening a company file

Question

Why do I get the error:  QBGDS plug-in has stopped working; when I open my company file?

Answer

The plug-in QBGDS is installed when you choose to install Google Desktop to run QuickBooks Google Search with your installation.  The plug-in is now malfunctioning.

You can either stop or uninstall the Google Desktop.  However, in so doing you will lose the QuickBooks Google Search function.

 

Workaround

To stop the QuickBooks Google Search:

  1. Open your System Tray (bottom right of your screen);
  2. Right-click the Google Desktop Icon and select Options;
  3. In the Google Desktop Preferences browser, click the first Tab option;
  4. In the Indexing Plug-ins section, untick Quickbooks Plug-In;

To uninstall the Google Desktop:

  1. Control Panel > Program and Features >
  2. Scroll down to Google Desktop, right click it and select uninstall.
