Queensland and Tasmanian State Payroll Thresholds are outdated in Reckon Accounts 2020

Question

Why are the QLD and TAS State Payroll Tax calculations outdated in Reckon Accounts 2020?

Answer

Download and install the updated State Payroll Tax file.

Changes

  1. QLD State Payroll Threshold has been changed to $1.3 million (annual) and the rate remains same as 4.75%
  2. TAS State Payroll Threshold has been changed to $2 million (annual) and the rate remains same as 6.10%.
    There are two thresholds available in TAS State Payroll. However, Reckon Accounts only supports one threshold (higher) per state. You might need to export the Payroll Tax Report to Excel and make necessary changes.

Reckon has prepared an updated tax file that you can install.

Steps

  1. Close Reckon Accounts;
  2. Click here to download the updated file to a convenient location such as the Desktop;
  3. In your installation directory, rename the file auStateTax.xml to auStateTax.rkn.old
    Default directory is C:\Program Files (x86)\Intuit\Reckon Accounts 2020
    1. Right-click your downloaded auStateTax.rkn file on the Desktop and select Copy;
    2. In Windows/File Explorer, go to the installation directory;
    3. Right-click on white space and select Paste and see the auStateTax.rkn appear at the bottom of the list of files.
    4. Now right click on auStateTax.rkn and select rename
    5. Remove .rkn and replace it with .xml and click OK.

You can now launch Reckon Accounts and in the State Payroll Tax Reports for QLD and TAS to see that the new threshold is being used.

The above State payroll changes will be available with Reckon Accounts 2021 onwards without the need to replace the above file manually.
