Legacy KB ID: 4011

Question

Why do I get the error: “Either there is no mail client or the current mail client cannot fulfil the messaging request. Please run Microsoft Outlook and set it as the default mail client” when sending a tax invoice from QuickBooks?

Answer

This error can appear on any email generated in QuickBooks 2011/12 when using Outlook 2010 64-bit.  It will appear if Outlook is not set as the default email system in Internet Explorer.

Workaround

1.    Click YES to the message and close QuickBooks

2.    Open Internet Explorer and set Outlook as the default email system;

a.    Tools > Internet Options > Programs

b.    Under Internet programs, click on Set programs;

c.    Select the option Set your default programs;

d.    In the left-hand pane, highlight Microsoft Office Outlook;

e.    In the right-hand pane, click on Set this program as default;

f.     Click OK to save then close the window.

You should now be able to send an email from QuickBooks
