QuickBooks is asking for a password

Question

When opening QuickBooks on Windows XP, I'm prompted for a password. I have never entered a password on this data file.

Answer

Win XP sometimes generates a password request for QuickBooks after the PC has been operating for an extended period. If this occurs try the following steps;


  1. Press OK without entering a password.
  2. If pressing OK did not work close all programs and restart the computer.
  3. Once the machine has been rebooted QuickBooks will now open without prompting the user for a password.
