Register your software ID for Reckon One payroll
Learn how to register your software ID so you can use Reckon One payroll.
What a software ID is and why you need to register it
Before you can begin using Reckon One for payroll, you must register your software ID.
A software ID is how the ATO knows that Reckon is your payroll software provider, and registering it lets Reckon One send STP data, including pay runs, to the ATO. Registering involves 2 steps:
- Calling the ATO to provide some details about your business and software (this is the part where you actually register the software ID with the ATO).
- Marking the software ID as registered in Reckon One (this is the part that lets Reckon One know that it can submit STP data).
Both steps need to occur before you process your first pay run in Reckon One. If you submit any pay runs or STP reports before marking your software ID as registered, the ATO will return an error and won’t process them.
Step 1: Register the software ID with the ATO
If you've moved to Reckon One from Reckon Accounts Hosted or Reckon Accounts Desktop, skip this step and move straight to marking the software ID as registered.
- In the Payroll menu, click on Payroll Settings, then select Software ID.
- Gather the following information (you will need this when you call the ATO):
- proof of business registration
- your Australian Business Number (ABN)
- your software ID - this will be shown on the screen, and is unique to you
- your software provider name (Reckon).
- Call the ATO on 1300 852 232 and say you want to Register Software ID, then give them the information.
Step 2: Mark the software ID as registered
- In the Payroll menu, click on Payroll Settings, then select Software ID.
- Click I’ve registered my Software ID.
