Handling foreign currency transactions with a large exchange rate

Legacy KB ID: 4045

Question

I am paying for imports in the country of origin’s local currency, but because of the large exchange rate I get the error:  “The amount must be in the range of -99,999,999.99 to 99,999,999.99”.  What can I do?

Answer

There is a limit to the number of digits that can be held in a cell in a register.  When that number is exceeded the error is displayed.

Reckon Accounts Personal stores the AUD equivalent of a foreign currency amount and writes the foreign amount to the memo field.  It will display the message if the foreign currency amount exceeds the limit, but will still process it in AUD terms.  In this case you can ignore the message.

Only when the AUD amount exceeds 99,999,999.99 will the transaction not record.

Reports will display totals greater than 99,999,999.99.

Where transactions exceed the digit limit, the transaction must be split up into multiple transactions.
