error “The value of Current Tax Rate Column must be in range 1 .. 9999’ When upgrading the file

Question

I’m getting the error “The value of Current Tax Rate Column must be in range 1 .. 9999’ When upgrading the file to the new version. How can I fix it?

Answer

When payroll premier upgraded the file it checks for the valid tax scales codes in the each employee record, whether terminated or current. That tax code is then matched with the valid tax identifier.

If for some reason the tax identifier is missing on your current file you will get that error when trying to upgrade the file.

Solution:

The solution is to identify the employee which is missing the tax code identifier and edit the employee to enter one valid identifier, before upgrading the file.

You will need to perform the below steps on your current old version, before upgrading to the new one.

Detailed instructions:

1) Go to the Reports menu -> Employees -> Number Order

2) You will now see the report with all employees listed in it. Click on Edit report to edit it.

3) Click on Add Button to add the column

4) Click on Employees tab and Select Tax Rate Identifier from the Fields available.

5) Enable Add Field to list Checkbox and click on Save.

This will now give you the report with all the employee with the column for Tax Rate Identifier.

Closely go through the list under this column and look for any empty field. If there is any employee with Blank field under this column, you will have to edit that employee to select correct tax scale under the taxation tab.

1) Go to Employee list.

2) Double click on that employee to edit and go to taxation tab.

3) Select the appropriate tax scale and close.

4) Repeat the step for all the employees that are blank on above report.

5) This will update the tax rate identifier on the above report

After you have successfully entered the correct tax scale and verified above report again to not have any blank field, try upgrading the file.
