Unable to read system registry error message when attempting to use the Accountant’s Data Transfer T

Question

Why do I get an error when I try to use the Accountant’s Data Transfer Tool in QuickBooks 2012/13?

Error Details:

Module: ADTTaxMapping.frm

Procedure: cmdExtractQBlists_Click()

Error Code: -1

Description: An error occurred while extracting the lists from the QuickBooks data file.: Unable to reacy system registry.  Please make sure you have selected the correct Edition of QuickBooks on the ADT Navigator.

 

Answer

This issue arises because the Windows Registry has a different version number for QuickBooks (21.0) than being used by the Accountant’s Data Transfer Tools (21.1)

 

Solution:

Care:  This step requires you to enter the Windows Registry.  Changes to the Registry effect the behaviour of your computer.  Incorrect changes may prevent your computer from running properly.  If you are not confident in making changes to your Registry please refer to your IT professional.

 

Before proceeding Reckon suggests you create a backup of Registry.

1.    Open the Registry Editor:

a.    Windows 7 & Vista: Start button > type regedit into the search box > Enter;

b.    Windows XP: Start button > Run > type regedt32 > Enter;

                                          i.    If you're prompted for an administrator password or confirmation, type the password or provide confirmation.

2.    On the top menu line, click on File >Export

3.    Select a location to save the file and in the File Name box enter a name;

4.    In the Export Range section, click on All;

5.    Click Save.

 

Adjust the QuickBooks version reference in the Registry:

1.    Open the Registry Editor by clicking Start > Run and type regedit then click OK.

2.    Navigate to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Wow6432Node\Intuit\QuickBooks . Note that on 32 bit operating systems, don't include the Wow6432Node part of the path.

3.    Right-click on the QuickBooks key and select New > Key. Type 21.1 and press Enter

4.    Right-click on the 21.1 key and select New > Key;

a.    Premier Edition:  type accountant and press Enter;

b.    Enterprise Edition:  type belacct and press Enter.

5.    Right-click on the key you just created and select New > String Value. Type Path and press Enter

6.    Obtain a value for this Path, navigate to:

a.    Premier: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Wow6432Node\Intuit\QuickBooks\ 21.0\accountant;

b.    Enterprise: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Wow6432Node\Intuit\ QuickBooks\21.0\belacct;

c.    Click on the accountant or belacct key;

d.    double-click the Name Path on the right-hand side. Press Ctrl + C to copy the path value;

e.    click Cancel to close the window.

7.    Navigate back to the key you created HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Wow6432Node\Intuit\QuickBooks\21.1\accountant and double-click the Name Path. Press Ctrl + V to paste the copied value and press OK.

8.    Navigate to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Wow6432Node\Intuit\ QuickBooksRegistration.

32 bit operating systems:  omit Wow6432Node from the path.

9.    Right-click on the QuickBooksRegistration key and select New > Key. Type 21.1 and press Enter

10. Right-click on the 21.1 key and select New > Key;

a.    Premier:   type accountant and press Enter;

b.    Enterprise: type belacct and press Enter.

11. Right-click on the key you just created and select New > String Value. Type LA and give it the value yes. Click Enter to complete.

12. Right-click again on the key you created in step 10 and select New > String Value. Type RegistrationNumber and press Enter

 

You should now be able to use Accountants Data Transfer without any issues.
