Tax Detail Report subtotalled by Category in H&B2013 is incorrect when sub-categories involved

Question

Why in Home & Business 2013 is the Tax Detail Report subtotalled by Category incorrect when sub-categories are involved? 

 

Answer

You will experience this problem when a transaction is split into sub-categories of sub-categories.

For instance, a category that has two levels of sub-accounts:

Expense1

          SubAcc1

                   Sub SubAcc1

Then Sub SubAcc1 will not be included in the Total for SubAcc1; only the direct entries to SubAcc1 are totalled again. 

The Total for Expense1 is correct. 

  

Workaround

Add the total of the lower sub-accounts to the first level sub-account.

 

To export the report to Excel:

1.    Click on Export Data;

2.    Select Report to Excel compatible format;

3.    Select a location (eg: Desktop or My Documents) and give the file a name (eg: Category Total report);

4.    Open the export file in Excel;

5.    Modify the first level sub-account total to include all its sub-accounts (subAcc1 + sub SubAcc1 + ……);

6.    If required, format the spreadsheet to its final presentation style.

7.    Save and print the report.
