Data encryption error when opening QuickBooks Hosted 2011/12

Legacy KB ID: 4125

Question

Why can’t I log onto QuickBooks Hosted 2011/12?  I keep getting the error:

RemoteApp Disconnected

Because of an error in data encryption, this session will end.  Please try connecting to the remote computer again.

Answer

This problem may be experienced by Windows XP users after running the Reckon infrastructure Compatibility Check utility and adjusting the Registry to allow for Network Level Authentication.  The most likely cause has been an incorrect adjustment of the Registry.

Workaround

If you made a backup of your Registry before making an earlier adjustment, then restore your Registry.

Otherwise, open the Registry and delete the entries made for the security packages:

  1. Open the Registry Editor  -  Start > Run > regedt32
  2. Open the Registry Key HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE > System > CurrentControlSet > Control > Lsa
  3. In the details pane, right-click Security Packages, and then click Modify;
  4. In the Value data box, remove the entry tspkg. Do not alter or delete any entry that is specific to other SSPs, and then click OK;
  5. In the navigation pane, locate and then click the following registry subkey: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE > SYSTEM > CurrentControlSet > Control > SecurityProviders;
  6. In the details pane, right-click SecurityProviders, and then click Modify;
  7. In the Value data box, remove the entry credssp.dll. Do not alter or delete any entry that is specific to other SSPs, and then click OK;
  8. Exit Registry Editor;
  9. Restart the computer.

Run the Reckon Infrastructure Compatibility Check utilty again.  If you did not save it to your computer then open the Quickbooks Hosted home page (https://qbi.reckononline.com.au/ts/) and run the Checker from that location.

When it is complete, open the Registry and re-enter the two values removed above:

·         tspkg in  HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE > System > CurrentControlSet > Control > Lsa > right click Security Packages > Modify > Value data;

·         credssp.dll in  HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE > System > CurrentControlSet > Control > right click SecurityProviders > Modify > Value data.

Close the Registry and reboot the PC

You should now be able to log onto QuickBooks Hosted 2011/12.

Additional Information

This article undoes the steps described in KB4102 and then has you re-running the Reckon Infrastructure Compatibility Checker.
