Question

Why do I receive the following warning message when connecting to the Internet through QuickBooks, or outside of QuickBooks but with the program open? You have changed the system time when others are using this company file. There are two possible situations that could cause this message: The time applet on the local workstation has changed while the QuickBooks company file was open and other users were logged on. The system time was changed on a local computer.

Answer

To resolve this issue, try one of the following: Change the workstation polling procedure to synchronize with the time server when no one will be in QuickBooks. If you are running a Novell Netware® network, you can set the workstations to poll a time server at specific intervals and synchronise the local workstation to that time, thus changing the local time applet. If you are running Microsoft® Windows XP on a stand alone computer (not on a network): 1. On the taskbar, click the Start button, and then click Settings, and then Control Panel. 2. Click the Internet Time tab. Note: Because of the complexity and variety of available networks, we are unable to provide support for specific network issues. If you need further assistance with your network, check with your system or network administrator (if you have one), the vendor from whom you purchased the network software, or a local computer consultant. Avoid changing the system time when you are in a QuickBooks data file.
