Cannot download US Share Prices (November 2019)

Legacy KB ID: 5762

Question

Why can’t I download US share prices in Reckon Personal Plus/Home & Business anymore?

(November 2019)

Answer

The US Share Price download service is provided by a 3rd party provider. For reasons beyond our control, the provider has ceased operation without prior indication and this service is no longer available.

Reckon apologies for the inconvenience this has caused.

Unfortunately, you will have to manually update the US Share prices. You can either update the price within Reckon Personal Plus and Home & Business or by importing a CSV file that needs to be updated with the prices.

Detailed Instructions

Import via CSV

  1. Before you start, we suggest you backup your data file: File > Backup
  2. Create a folder1 on your C: Drive called SPD (for share price download)
  3. Make a backup of your data file: File > Backup
  4. Download this template file and save to your C:\SPD folder.
    1. Open the template file that you have saved in C:\SPD folder in Microsoft Excel or another editor
    2. In the first column, enter the ticker symbol of the US Share. For example: FB for Facebook
    3. In the second column, enter the price. For example: 197.51
    4. In the third column, enter the date of the price in yyyymmdd format (it’s optional and you can define the date in the Import wizard if all of the prices are of one specific date). For example: 20191121 for 21st November 2019.
    5. Keep on adding stock data in separate rows
    6. Once you have added all of your stock and their prices, use the Save As option to save your data
    7. Give it a name so that it’s unique. If all of your share prices are of a specific date, you can add the date of the share price at the end of the file name. For example: USSharePrices21112019.csv
    8. Please ensure that you keep it in CSV format.
Please note that you can only import a single day of price information at a time in Reckon Accounts Personal
  5. Open Reckon Accounts Personal and import these files:
    1. Using the top menu options, Investing > Portfolio > File > Import > Import Prices
    2. In the Import Price Data window, in the File field, enter the full path of the first share price data file:
      1. For example: USSharePrices21112019.csv
      2. If you saved the file to your Desktop then the full path will be USSharePrices21112019.csv
    3. Optional: In the Date field, enter the date of the Share Prices (if they are all from one specific date, otherwise you can leave it blank). Example:  21/11/2019.
    4. Click OK to import the share prices
  6. You will have to keep on updating the CSV file with the Share Prices of your US stocks per day and import into Reckon Accounts Personal to add Share Price History.

Your data file is now updated with the closing prices for the specific day. Please note that you cannot import high, low and volume data from importing the CSV file. You will need to add them manually into each day’s data within Reckon Accounts Personal.

If you have more than one data file with share price information you will need to import these update files into each data file.
