Setup cannot find a valid QuickBooks 2012/13 installation path error when applying the 2012/13 Tax T

Legacy KB ID: 4592

Question

Why do I get the error “Setup cannot find a valid QuickBooks 2012/13 installation path” when applying the 2012/13 Tax Table Update?

Answer

This error mostly occurs when your QuickBooks application is not activated.

In some cases you will get this error with an activated QuickBooks application when the Tax Table Update installer could not reach the QuickBooks installation directory.

Workaround

To check that your QuickBooks is activated:

1.    Open a company file;

2.    Press Ctrl+1 to open the Product Information Screen;

3.    On the Licenses number line, does the word ACTIVATED appear?

a.    If yes, your QuickBooks is activated;

b.    If no, your QuickBooks is not activated.  You must activate now:

                                          i.    File > Activate Quickbooks;

                                         ii.    Follow the screens to activate across the web;

                                        iii.    If web activation fails, call Customer Service on 1300 784253 and complete a by phone activation.

Apply the Tax Table again.  If you get the error again:

1.    Click on Browse;

2.    Navigate to your installation directory.  The default installation directory is: c:\Program Files\Intuit\ and select the QuickBooks 20xx/x1 folder;

Note:  64-bit users should select c:\Program Files (x86)\Intuit\;

3.    Continue with the tax table update installation.
