Network Error - Windows cannot access \\Client\C$

Legacy KB ID: 4642

Question

Why won’t QuickBooks Hosted allow me to access my local PC C-drive?  I get the error:

Network Error

Windows cannot access \\Client\C$.

You do not have permission to access \\Client\C$. Contact your network administrator to request access

Answer

This issue may be experienced by Premium Account users accessing QuickBooks Hosted through a Citrix Receiver rather than through the Online Plug-in.  It will happen when the Client File Security of the Citrix Connection Center denies Server-based applications access to local client files.

Solution

Allow Server-based applications access to local client files.

1.    Launch QuickBooks Hosted Premium;

2.    Click on the Citrix Connection Center icon in the bottom right corner of your screen (it is a blue icon);

3.    Select Connection Center and click on File Security button;

4.    Under Access Level, click the radio button by  Full Access;

5.    Click OK and OK to close all windows.

 You should now be able to access files from your local PC.

If you get a further error: "The currently logged in Windows User does not have permission to write or delete files from this location", you need to give external applications Read and Write permissions to the hard disk:

1.    With QuickBooks Hosted launched, click on Citrix Viewer > Preferences;

2.    Click on the Devices tab;

3.    Ensure that Read and write is selected.

  1. Close the window.

Additional Note

Reckon recommends that you do not open QuickBooks company files from your local PC.  You should upload your company file to your Hosted Q-drive and access from that location.  See KB3618 https://kb.reckon.com.au/issue_view.asp?ID=3618 for full instructions.
