QuickBooks 2012/13 takes a long time to close

Legacy KB ID: 4465

Question

Why does QuickBooks 2012/13 take a long time to close?  Sometimes it crashes.

Answer

QuickBooks 2012/13 installs the PayPal Payment Request utility.  This utility allows you to send an invoice to a customer with easy click buttons to pay by PayPal. (Both you and your customer must have a valid PayPal account.)

When you close QuickBooks 2012/13, the PayPal Payment Request utility is shut down first.  This process takes a few minutes.

Workaround

Allow a little longer for QuickBooks 2012/13 to shut down.  Do not press and Escape keys or Close buttons.

If you have no need for the PayPal Payment Request utility, you can remove it.  To remove it from your computer:

1.    Close QuickBooks

2.    Start > Control Panel > Programs and Features

(Windows XP:  use Add/Remove Programs)

3.    Scroll down to PayPal Payment Request Wizard for QuickBooks AU Edition and right-click it;

4.    Select Uninstall/Change.
