Question

Why do I receive a message .QBO is not a QuickBooks data file or it is damaged when Importing a Bank Statement in QuickBooks QBi?

Answer

If you have QuickBooks 2007/08 and QuickBooks QBi installed on your computer and attempt to import a Bank Statement (QIF) to QuickBooks QBi, it opens QuickBooks 2007/08 and a warning message appears:
"C:\FilePath\Filename.QBO is not a QuickBooks data file or it is damaged"

To import QIF & QBO files into QuickBooks QBi, follow the steps below:

Windows XP


1. From the Windows Start menu, select My Computer
2. From the Tools menu, select Folder Options...
3. Click the File Types tab
4. From the Registered file types list, locate QBO
5. Select QBO and click Advanced
6. Select qbw32.exe from the Actions window and click Edit...
7. Click Browse...
8. Locate and select qbw32.exe. Click Open
Note:
The default location of QuickBooks QBi installation is C:\Program Files\Intuit\QuickBooks (select your QBi version)
9. Click OK, OK and Close to save the change


Windows 7 & Vista

1. From the Windows Icon, select Programs > Default Programs
2. Click Associate a file type or protocol with a program
3. Locate and select .QBO from the list
4. Click Change Program...
5. Click Browse... Locate and select qbw32.exe. Click Open
Note: The default location of QuickBooks QBi installation is C:\Program Files\Intuit\QuickBooks (select your QBi version)
6. Click OK and Close


You will now be able to import Bank Statements (QIF) into QuickBooks QBi
